GERSTAECKER, based in Eitorf near Bonn, is Europe's largest mail order company for artists' supplies. The product range comprises more than 50,000 products, which are distributed in several countries through various channels, such as print catalogues and web shops. The company GERSTAECKER was founded in 1953 and since then has been focusing on direct sales in the mail order business.

The Challenge

GERSTAECKER manages images in a file system. Manual handling was prone to errors and maintenance was extremely labor-intensive. To supply web shops with content and produce product catalogues, a lot of work had to be done due to complicated image processing procedures. To create a product catalog, employees laboriously searched for all product data. This time-consuming manual process took an enormous amount of time. Therefore, GERSTAECKER decided on a Pixelboxx solution that not only simplifies the storage and management of all image data, but also automates processes and workflows without compromising functionality or the high design standards.

The Solution

Pixelboxx DAM is a media-neutral, web-based system that centrally manages all product images of GERSTAECKER. It is the only source of information for all international media and communication channels of the mail order company. To simplify the production of catalogues, the product information management (PIM) was closely integrated with the Pixelboxx digital asset management (DAM).

All article images are managed centrally and media neutral in the DAM. The PIM controls the article images to produce the catalog, depending on whether the views are total or detailed. In this way, catalogue production is largely carried out in automated processes and saves a lot of time. Web-to-print (W2P) integration is available for the printing of marketing materials. Both for print catalogues and web shops, the media-specific image versions are always correctly displayed and redundant data storage is avoided.

For e-commerce, the Pixelboxx DAM was also linked to Pixelbridge. The framework allows, with high performance, the dynamic publishing of images in the correct scaling and automatically provides web shops all over Europe with the latest images, which are managed in the Pixelboxx.
